This is the new version of Ukraine’s Arms Monitor that many of you know from my professional LinkedIn page. I began monitoring arms transfers to Ukraine during my internship at the United Nations in New York and then created Ukraine’s Arms Monitor in January 2024.

Since that time, on a weekly basis, I have been collecting the latest developments in military transfers in the context of the Russian war on Ukraine. Over time, my focus has expanded to encompass important topics such as Ukraine’s military production, opportunities for defense cooperation and investments in Ukraine, Russia’s efforts to circumvent Western sanctions, and its cooperation with Iran, North Korea, and China.

Who am I?

My name is Olena Kryzhanivska. I am originally from Ukraine and currently reside in Canada. I work as a Senior Editor at the NATO Association of Canada. Additionally, I am an Emerging Expert for the 2024-2025 cohort with the Forum on the Arms Trade, where I contribute to the regular monitoring of arms transfers to Ukraine. I am also a member of the Advisory Committee for the Small Arms Survey project "Supporting Ukraine in Addressing the Risks of Small Arms and Light Weapons Proliferation from the Russian War of Aggression."

I hold a PhD in Political Science from Gazi University in Turkey. Over the past two years, I have worked with various international organizations in the field of peace and security in different capacities.

What sources are used for this Monitor?

I use information from open sources. My language skills and regional expertise allow me to access information from resources and reports in Ukrainian, Russian, and Turkish. Many relevant investigations are published in these languages, but as they are not in English, they remain inaccessible to a large part of the international community. Through this platform, I aim to bridge that gap and provide access to these valuable resources.

Who will benefit from Ukraine’s Arms Monitor?

Over the course of my active monitoring, I have discovered that my audience is very diverse. Over the years, I have cooperated with representatives from international organizations and think tanks, diplomats, government officials, defense sector professionals, military producers, students, researchers, and academics.

What are the benefits of a subscription?

Subscribing to my Monitor will give you access to four editions of the digest per month. Following my current practice, I prepare a fresh edition of the Monitor every week by reviewing a variety of English, Ukrainian, and Russian sources. I select the most relevant news, summarize it into brief bullet points, and include a mandatory link to the original source for more detailed information. If the source is in a foreign language, I provide a concise summary. You can check all the previous open-access editions of Ukraine's Arms Monitor for 2024 on my LinkedIn.

As a bonus, every week I publish an additional post-overview of the most relevant publication or report. This overview highlights key points so that you don’t have to sift through lengthy documents.

Thank you for supporting Ukraine’s Arms Monitor!
